AClass Academy of English

AClass Academy of English is an English Language Centre which forms part of St. Catherine’s High School. The school is located in Pembroke, a residential area of the island, it is close to the sea and the shops. Our school has several air-conditioned classrooms, and offers General and Intensive English Courses all year round. The centre is located on the ground floor of a large building enjoying lovely sea and country views.
Our central location is an added benefit for course participants as we are close to St Julian’s and Sliema, two very popular attractions on the island. Every year students from around the world choose our centre to improve their English language skills.

What is it like at AClass Academy of English?
The school forms part of an established educational facility and all learners can benefit from academic support. We also have a friendly administration team on hand to guide you whether you wish to book cultural tours, sightseeing or even take a diving course after school! Excellence in English Language Teaching! Quite simply, we believe that brilliant teaching yields brilliant results. We hire excellent teaching staff and our feedback forms ensure that we listen to your needs. The school is fully licensed by the ELT Council and the

government of Malta. It is also an established Teacher Training Centre, welcoming International Teachers for courses and job shadowing opportunities in the main school.

Small Classes
At our centre we teach English to Adults, Young Learners and Teenagers. Join a class of a similar age and nationality for quality English tuition in a communicative environment. Our small groups guarantee plenty of attention from the teacher, in addition we offer up to date materials and encourage you to immerse yourself in the English language. Qualified and Experienced Teaching Staff
All teaching staff are fully licensed and in possession of specific EFL qualifications, as well as being creative, caring and experienced EFL instructors. As experts they are able to guide participants to communicate effectively in the English Language.
Many of our teachers hold a First degree & CELTA or equivalent qualifications, and all are fully licensed by the ELT Council of Malta.

There is clear focus on grammar and vocabulary with plenty of colloquial language, idioms and high frequency phrases. There is plenty of speaking and using English to communicate in real life situations. This includes work on pronunciation and use of idioms and colloquial expressions which are integrated into our topic-based lessons. AClass teachers will make sure you practise the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. This is done in a supportive environment using conventional texts and audio equipment, role-play, problem solving, discussions and collaborative tasks. This will help you develop confidence and language structures in a meaningful and supportive environment with your classmates.

Exam Preparation Course (Cambridge/IELTS)

The language course is designed to help students prepare for specific English language proficiency exams. These qualifications prove you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or study on courses taught in English. Our English examination courses are carefully designed, using modern course books and materials and our team of dedicated English language teachers is always on hand to guide you through the examination process.

We offer preparation in the following English language examinations;
- IELTS (final exam every month)
- Cambridge Suite of Exams (FCE, CAE or PET examinations)
- TOEFL
Examinations can be taken in Malta or in the student’s home country.

All flight details must be provided at least 14 days before you start the course, unless you are booking late in which case you are to contact us directly as soon as possible. Airport transfers cost €40 (return) or €25 (one way). An arrival airport transfer is mandatory if you are booking host family or self-catering accommodation with us.

Local Tax : For International Students it is applied Eco-Tax 5 Euro for each stay by Maltese Government.

A weekly fee of 30 € will be added to the course fees and variable additions will be applied to the accommodation fees between these dates.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY OF THE SCHOOL

CANCELLATION PRIOR TO ARRIVAL
The school cannot give you a refund of the deposit if you cancel the course after the booking has been confirmed. We can not give refunds if you arrive late, leave early or miss part of the course.
There is NO deposit refund once your course has been booked. After you have accepted a place on a course, we cannot repay your deposit. In the event that you cancel, this deposit will be used to pay cancellation fees to hotels/ host families and to teachers as well as to cover any extra administrative charges.
If you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the course you will be charged for one week course. If you have booked accommodation and cancel the accommodation less than 14 days before arrival you will be charged for one week of accommodation.
Cancellation 7 days or less prior to arrival – no refund given.
Please arrange cancellation insurance before you leave home. We recommend Guard Me insurance who are specialists in EFL insurance. Please see our website for links to our partner site.

TERMINATION OF ACCOMMODATION OR COURSE AFTER ARRIVAL
No refunds can be given on courses or accommodation after your arrival.
Accommodation in host families is always allocated by the school all changes must be made through the administration office. In the case of group bookings allocation lists will be sent prior to arrival via email. Any changes must be communicated to the school prior to arrival on the island.
In the case of an emergency you must call the 24 hour emergency number to inform the school of an emergency.
It is the student’s responsibility to inform us of any allergies prior to arrival to avoid misunderstandings with the host family.
Under no circumstances are students or leaders allowed to change host families without prior consent.

Some important issues:
1. Cancellations or shortening of courses after Visa has been issued No refunds are granted to students failing to arrive or who are absent during their course.
2. Periods of absence are not compensated with free extensions at the end of the course.
3. In the case of students being granted a visa, non-arrivals, late arrivals and periods of absence will be reported to the immigration authorities.

Host Families Accommodation:
Staying with an English speaking family is an excellent way of maximizing your educational experience. Every family have their own way of life, so living in a family environment can be fun, it gives you the opportunity to practise your English and it will provide you with a cultural experience that you will remember for the rest of your life!

Shared Self-Catering Flats/Apartments:
A flat/apartment is your best option for cost effective, independent accommodation while learning English around your Course location. You have the privacy of your own space and the opportunity to cook your own meals while enjoying the company of other students from different countries. Usually the apartments are centrally located and close to local amenities like cafés, bars, restaurants, shops and buses and all are within walking distance of Course (maximum distance 15 minutes on foot) unless specified otherwise. Electricity and water meter readings will be taken every week and charges will be divided between the number of students sharing the apartment.A Security deposit around 150 Euro is collected in cash on the first day. Water and electricity is not included in the rates quoted.

Hostels (2 Students) Accommodation:
Hostels provide a budget oriented, sociable option where students can book a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can accommodate mixed or single sex, and private rooms may also be available.Shared rooms in the Hostel can be set up as twins.

Hostels (3-4 Students) Accommodation:
Hostels provide a budget oriented, sociable option where students can book a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can accommodate mixed or single sex, and private rooms may also be available.Shared rooms in the Hostel can be set up as for 3-4 Students .

3-Stars Hotels in the walking distance
All our 3 star hotels are in walking distance from the school and the main shopping area of Sliema. The bus terminus is only 5 minutes away and serves routes to Valletta and St Julian’s, some of Malta’s historic sites and a selection of sandy beaches.
