Work And Study

Students from Non-EU countries (Third Country Nationals – TCN) can now apply for an employment license and work whilst studying English in Malta!

Third Country Nationals (TCN) students who are studying in Malta for longer than 90 days can apply for an employment licence allowing them to work in Malta.

Conditions

■ Students cannot work in their first 90 days in Malta whilst attending a course
■ They may only apply for an employment licence* after they have obtained a study visa for the period beyond the first 90 day study visa
■ Students need a job offer and to complete the application form together with their employer
■ They must continue to attend their classes – minimum of 15 hours a week
■ Students can only work a maximum of 20 hours per week
■ They cannot stop studying and only work using their employment licence
■ If changing jobs/employer students will need to apply for a new licence* with their new employer

Steps to apply

To study in Malta for longer than 90 days students must extend their visa once in Malta. Visa waiver students should apply for a visa before the end of their visa free 90 days.
1. Students must apply for their study visa first and wait for it to be approved before applying for an employment license*.
2. Find a job in Malta
3. Receive a formal job offer from employer
4. Submit employment application to Jobsplus (the employer will need to complete a form as part of the application with details of the job offer)
5. Pay application fee – €230**

The employment licence takes approximately 4 – 6 weeks to be granted, after which the student can begin working providing they have been studying in Malta for a minimum of 90 days.

Obtaining student visa extension

Students can apply for their visa extension after 21 days in Malta. Students should apply at the Central Visa Unit in Floriana.

FAQ's

WHO IS CONSIDERED A TCN?
Third country Nationals (TCN) refers to anyone that comes from outside of the EU/EEA or who are not Swiss Nationals.
EDU-SEARCH can advise you regarding helpful websites such as the government Jobsplus website vacancies but students will be responsible for finding their own employment.
Yes, you will need a formal job offer before you can apply as your employer will need to fill in a form as part of your application, stating the job offer and details of the position.
The employment license fee is currently €230. For up-to-date information students should check with Jobsplus: www.jobsplus.gov.mt
You can only work after 90 days in Malta on your study visa and only with a valid extended study visa and employment licence.
You can only work for a maximum of 20 hours per week and you must continue studying for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
No, you are required to attend your classes regardless of any employment you may have. If a student’s attendance is less than 75% the school is required to inform immigration which may result in the student’s study visa being withdrawn. This will also make the employment licence invalid.
Yes, if the student’s employer is willing to continue to employ them then the licence can be extended*. Students must have a valid study visa and continue to attend their classes.

The Fluency Intensive option is one of our Intensive English Courses in Dublin. This course combines 20 lessons of General English in the mornings with 6 lessons of individual training in the afternoon. A weekly fee of 50 € will be added to the course fees and variable additions will be applied to the accommodation fees between these dates.

NOTES

All course fees should be paid in full at least 30 days prior to the student commencing their course. Please consider payment processing times for international payments. Atlas Language School has partnered with TransferMate to make international payments for ETOs safe and easy. For non-EEA students who require a visa: For visa required students, payment must be made at least 12 weeks before the course commences so we can prepare the student visa documents. Please note that some visa applications need to be made several months in advance, and the payment has to be made accordingly. Students or their ETOs are responsible for applying for a student visa well in advance in order to make sure the visa will be granted and received before the student’s departure. Failure to comply may result in postponement or cancellation charges. Acceptance letters are only issued after full payment is received by Atlas Language School.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY OF THE SCHOOL

Course Cancellation
Tuition fees are non-refundable once a student has commenced their course. If a student cancels their course more than 30 days before the course commences, all fees will be refunded. If a student cancels their course less than 30 days before the course commences, fees will be refunded with the exception of the registration fee (€70). If fees have not been paid by then, against these terms and conditions, cancellation fees will be charged to the student or the representing agent (in case of agent bookings). In the event of a group booking cancellation less than 2 weeks before the course commences, fees will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation charge. If a student cancels their course due to a visa refusal, fees will be refunded with the exception of registration fee and a cancellation charge of €70, however accommodation fees will still apply. There is a €15 charge on refunds by bank transfer to non-EU bank accounts. The mentioned penalties will be charged without exceptions, also in the case of visa refusals. Putting a course on hold
In exceptional cases, a course can be put on hold for up to 12 months after the date the student was registered. The school must be notified in writing at least 30 days in advance of the course start. If a course is postponed less than 30 days in advance of the course start date a postponement fee of €35 will be charged. The mentioned penalties will be charged without exceptions, also in the case of visa refusals. Please contact the school for further details. Depending on the new course dates, please note that the Course and Accommodation Summer Supplement may apply. If a course is postponed for more than 12 months from the date the student was registered, the regular cancellation fees apply and the booking will be treated as a new booking, i.e. new fees (course, accommodation, registration and placement fees, insurance and exam fee) will apply, if applicable. Postponed courses cannot be rebooked in conjunction with any other offers. If a course with a past promotion is postponed in line with the postponement periods, and part(s) of the promotion are not available anymore, the student can make use of any promotion that may currently be on offer, or request a refund. Accommodation Cancellation
Accommodation fees are non-refundable once a student has arrived at the accommodation. Homestay
If homestay accommodation is cancelled more than 30 days before arrival, all accommodation fees will be refunded. If homestay accommodation is cancelled less than 30 days but more than 14 days before arrival, all accommodation fees will be refunded with the exception of the accommodation placement fee (€70). If fees have not been paid by then, against these terms and conditions, cancellation fees will be charged to the student or the representing agent (in case of agent bookings). If homestay accommodation is cancelled less than 14 days before arrival, all accommodation fees will be refunded with the exception of the accommodation placement fee (€70) and one week’s accommodation. If fees have not been paid by then, against these terms and conditions, cancellation fees will be charged to the student or the representing agent (in case of agent bookings). If homestay accommodation is postponed less than 7 days before arrival, the student will be charged for one week’s accommodation. For students starting in the first week of January, all changes must be done at least 7 days before the winter holidays start, otherwise, this penalty will be charged accordingly. Homestay accommodation fees are non-refundable if booked for visa application purposes (visa-required Non-EU students). All the penalties mentioned above will be charged without exceptions, also in the case of visa refusal or delays. Residence & Apartments
If residential accommodation is cancelled or postponed more than 30 days before arrival, all accommodation fees will be refunded. If residential accommodation is cancelled or postponed less than 30 days but more than 14 days before arrival, all accommodation fees will be refunded with the exception of the accommodation placement fee (€70). If fees have not been paid by then, against these terms and conditions, cancellation fees will be charged to the student or the representing agent (in case of agent bookings). If residential accommodation is cancelled or postponed less than 14 days before arrival, all accommodation fees will be refunded with the exception of the accommodation placement fee (€70) and one week’s accommodation. If fees have not been paid by then, against these terms and conditions, cancellation fees will be charged to the student or the representing agent (in case of agent bookings). No refund will be made if a student makes alternative arrangements during their stay and decide not to continue to remain in our accommodation. No allowance will be made for absence from accommodation during the time arranged or for late arrival or early departure (including postponement). For students starting in the first week of January, all changes must be done at least 7 days before the winter holidays start, otherwise, this penalty will be charged accordingly. Residence accommodation fees are non-refundable if booked for visa application purposes (visa-required Non-EU students). All penalties mentioned above will be charged without exceptions, also in the case of visa refusal or delays. Airport Pickup Cancellation
If a student does not arrive at the airport due to a cancelled or missed flight, or at the agreed pick-up point, without notifying Atlas Language School, no refund of the pickup fees can be made.
Some important issues:
1. Cancellations or shortening of courses after Visa has been issued No refunds are granted to students failing to arrive or who are absent during their course.
2. Periods of absence are not compensated with free extensions at the end of the course.
3. In the case of students being granted a visa, non-arrivals, late arrivals and periods of absence will be reported to the immigration authorities.

Host Families Accommodation:
Staying with an English speaking family is an excellent way of maximizing your educational experience. Every family have their own way of life, so living in a family environment can be fun, it gives you the opportunity to practise your English and it will provide you with a cultural experience that you will remember for the rest of your life!
Shared Self-Catering Flats/Apartments:
A flat/apartment is your best option for cost effective, independent accommodation while learning English around your Course location. You have the privacy of your own space and the opportunity to cook your own meals while enjoying the company of other students from different countries. Usually the apartments are centrally located and close to local amenities like cafés, bars, restaurants, shops and buses and all are within walking distance of Course (maximum distance 15 minutes on foot) unless specified otherwise. Electricity and water meter readings will be taken every week and charges will be divided between the number of students sharing the apartment.A Security deposit around 150 Euro is collected in cash on the first day. Water and electricity is not included in the rates quoted.
Hostels (2 Students) Accommodation:
Hostels provide a budget oriented, sociable option where students can book a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can accommodate mixed or single sex, and private rooms may also be available.Shared rooms in the Hostel can be set up as twins.
Hostels (3-4 Students) Accommodation:
Hostels provide a budget oriented, sociable option where students can book a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can accommodate mixed or single sex, and private rooms may also be available.Shared rooms in the Hostel can be set up as for 3-4 Students .

All our 3 star hotels are in walking distance from the school and the main shopping area of Sliema. The bus terminus is only 5 minutes away and serves routes to Valletta and St Julian’s, some of Malta’s historic sites and a selection of sandy beaches.
