Why a language school in Valletta?
Valletta is full of beautiful architecture built by the Knights of St. John between the 16th and 17th centuries, the founder decreed that it was ‘a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen’. You can still see this today with most of the original architecture well-preserved. There are high walls surrounding the peninsula with many buildings in baroque style.
Valletta is the smallest capital within the EU. One huge advantage is that everything can be easily reached on foot. The charming capital is a vivid, cultural and economic centre. There are many bars, cafes, restaurants and shops to enjoy in your leisure time as well as cinemas and theatres including the oldest used baroque theatre in Europe.
From Valletta you can easily travel to other destinations on the island as the coach station is only a 3-4 minute walk away from our school. It is very easy to visit the medieval city of Mdina or the sandy beaches of Malta after your lessons. The journey on the bus to every part of the island is short and inexpensive. You can also walk to many destinations such as Sliema which is only 15-20 minutes away.

Cavendish School is situated in a historic house in Valletta which was built in the 1900’s.
Once the home of a wealthy businessman, this historic home has undergone complete renovation and is even more elegant and impressive than before. Amongst the 40 language schools in Malta, we are one of only two schools whose licence has been granted in Valletta. This is a huge opportunity for our students to escape the crowds and study in a relaxed and beautiful environment.
If you would like to experience the great Maltese nightlife then buzzing Sliema and St Julian’s Bay are only a few minutes away by ferry or bus.

IELTS Examination programme C1, C2 and C3

IELTS (level 6 or above) is accepted as evidence of your ability to study in English by educational establishments throughout the English-speaking world. This qualification is often a prerequisite for entrance to higher education at university or college.
Examination courses concentrate on real language situations using a wide variety of materials including: video, contemporary literature, newspapers and materials specifically designed by your course teacher to enhance your abilities and skills.
Our lessons are available all year and they are designed to prepare you for examinations held in March, June and December.
IELTS examinations are held most months. This means, whenever you have reached the required level you can be entered for the examination.

NOTES

PAYMENT
Applications for courses are only accepted with payment of the enrolment fee. NO STUDENT PLACE WILL BE KEPT OPEN WITHOUT RECEIPT OF THE ENROLMENT FEE. The course fees must be paid in full before commencement of the course. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER CLASSES OR PARTICIPATE IN ANY PART OF THE PROGRAMME UNTIL FULL PAYMENT HAS BEEN RECEIVED. The enrolment fee for adult courses include the first course book only. Subsequent course books or photocopies have to be paid for by the student.
NOT Included unless booked separately.: Travel to school, accommodation, social programme and excursions, external examination fees, personal and health insurance, bank charges on international money transfers.
POSTPONING or ‘BRINGING FORWARD’ YOUR COURSE
If you want to postpone your course or bring it forward, we must receive notice on or before your course start date. Notice received after the course start date will not be valid. No compensation will be given if a student arrives late or does not attend part or all of his/her course (including any period of holiday taken or illness during the course). Compensation for any serious illnesses will be at the sole discretion of the Director. The Director’s decision will be final. Courses can only be postponed or brought forward for a maximum of 6 weeks before or after the original course start date. Students may postpone their starting dates once. If a postponement is made more than once, then a further administration fee of £65 will be charged (€65 in the case of Malta). Courses for which the school has issued a ‘formal letter of registration’ cannot be postponed or brought forward under any circumstances. Small classes may be merged with other classes due to low enrolment. We also reserve the right to change the times and teachers of classes.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY OF THE SCHOOL

Visa nationals only: If a Visa student is refused ‘leave to enter/remain in the UK/Malta’, the course fees less a 10% administration fee less the enrolment fee, less postage charges for invitation letters will be refunded to the student if, before the course start date, he/she can produce the original letter of refusal from British authorities and the receipt from the school. Only a refusal letter and no other document will be valid for a refund. If a student produces the above documents the table below does not apply. All students with reasons for cancellation other than refusal of ‘leave to enter/remain in the UK/Malta’ as described above: If a student cancels before the course or accommodation start date (whichever is sooner), he/she will receive a refund of course fees according to below table. • If the cancellation is received more than 6 weeks before the starting date of the course, we will refund the course fees less a 10% administration fee. • Cancellations less than 6 weeks before the course commences will incur a cancellation fee of 20% of the course fees. • Cancellations less than 5 weeks before the course commences will incur a cancellation fee of 35% of the course fees. • Cancellations less than 4 weeks before the course commences will incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the course fees. • Cancellations less than 3 weeks before the course commences will incur a cancellation fee of 60% of the course fees. • Cancellations less than 2 weeks before the course commences will incur a cancellation fee of 75% of the course fees. • Cancellations less than 1 week before the course commences will incur a cancellation fee of 90% of the course fees. • Cancellation on arrival day or after the course start date or accommodation start date (whichever is sooner) will incur a cancellation fee of 100% of the course fees The enrolment fee or any deposit payment is always non-refundable Course fees include the gross amount of all costs incurred as written out in the invoice, e.g. tuition, accommodation, transfers, entrance fees, excursions, etc. Students are strongly advised to take out insurance as to avoid loss of fees for nonarrival, or termination in case of illness or family emergencies. Refunds will only be made in the name of the student, regardless of who paid for the course except for agent bookings, where refunds will be made to the agent. Refunds will be made a maximum of 5 weeks after the office has received the necessary documents.

Some important issues:
1. Cancellations or shortening of courses after Visa has been issued No refunds are granted to students failing to arrive or who are absent during their course.
2. Periods of absence are not compensated with free extensions at the end of the course.
3. In the case of students being granted a visa, non-arrivals, late arrivals and periods of absence will be reported to the immigration authorities.

Host Families Accommodation:
Staying with an English speaking family is an excellent way of maximizing your educational experience. Every family have their own way of life, so living in a family environment can be fun, it gives you the opportunity to practise your English and it will provide you with a cultural experience that you will remember for the rest of your life!

Shared Self-Catering Flats/Apartments:
A flat/apartment is your best option for cost effective, independent accommodation while learning English around your Course location. You have the privacy of your own space and the opportunity to cook your own meals while enjoying the company of other students from different countries. Usually the apartments are centrally located and close to local amenities like cafés, bars, restaurants, shops and buses and all are within walking distance of Course (maximum distance 15 minutes on foot) unless specified otherwise. Electricity and water meter readings will be taken every week and charges will be divided between the number of students sharing the apartment.A Security deposit around 150 Euro is collected in cash on the first day. Water and electricity is not included in the rates quoted.

Hostels (2 Students) Accommodation:
Hostels provide a budget oriented, sociable option where students can book a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can accommodate mixed or single sex, and private rooms may also be available.Shared rooms in the Hostel can be set up as twins.

Hostels provide a budget oriented, sociable option where students can book a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can accommodate mixed or single sex, and private rooms may also be available.Shared rooms in the Hostel can be set up as for 3-4 Students .

3-Stars Hotels in the walking distance
All our 3 star hotels are in walking distance from the school and the main shopping area of Sliema. The bus terminus is only 5 minutes away and serves routes to Valletta and St Julian’s, some of Malta’s historic sites and a selection of sandy beaches.
